“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”  Whether the credit for this quote goes to the Greek philosopher Plato, or the 19th century author Margaret Wolfe Hungerford, the words couldn’t ring truer when it comes to choosing my favorite Asgard Press College Football Calendar covers.  It has nothing to do with how good the team was, or anything else other than finding what pleases my eye.  From aesthetically pleasing detailed drawings of football action, to silly cartoon Lions, Tigers, and Bear mascots tricking their visiting rivals, it all comes down to personal opinion.  And while I really love ALL the program covers we’ve chosen for our calendars, these ten are my tops!   Hope you like ’em too and heeeeeeere they are –

10. Sure looks like a Heisman pose to me. Could this be the image that inspired the first trophy awarded the same year, 1935?

9. I LOVE Pennants! This cover has tons of ’em with a fullback plowing through the middle. Your school in there?

8. Keep it simple stupid. This guy just kickin’ it makes the “Thanksgiving Classic,” Classic!

2. There have been many cartoonists who’ve had their work grace the cover of many a program, but Auburn-Clemson illustrator Phil Neel is the all time best in my eyes.

1. Long before the fly-overs of today, the mix of military and football was widely depicted on football programs across the country during Word War II. Support our troops!

So there you have it…. Truth be told, it’s just too hard to pick my true top ten gameday program covers as there are so many to peruse and so many that I really love.  I do urge you to browse through the Asgard Press website in search of your own favorite Top Ten.  I bet you’ll enjoy the ride.
