From the back cover: The crux of the Penn State football philosophy lies in the contrast between the in-ornate uniforms and the radiance of its ever-expanding trophy cases. This commemorative collection of vintage gameday football program covers reflects the manner in which the boys in Blue and White raised gridiron grit to a level of high art in winning 25 Lambert Trophies and going 49 consecutive years without a losing season from 1939 to 1986 (the first 27 under coaches not named Paterno!) Each archival-quality reproduction in this edition is printed on 100% recycled paper using soy-based inks, and is easily removable to fit any standard 11”X14” frame, so you can enjoy your favorite images long after the season ends. “We Are Penn State!” About the Images The images featured in this calendar are archival-quality reproductions of the covers of the actual souvenir game programs that were sold at the games many decades ago. In some cases the images have been digitally repaired and restored where creases, tears, marks, or other damage would have otherwise distracted from the appreciation of the artwork as it appeared at that time. Some images have been cropped and/or resized to fit this format. The Golden Age: 1920s - 1960s The period from the 1920s-1960s is considered by many collectors to be the Golden Age of college football program cover art. Talented men and women created sublime, provocative and often whimsical works of art for any given Saturday—using oil on canvas, watercolor, pastels, and pen and ink. Editor's note: Some of the most memorable images were created by staff artists and syndicated by advertising companies as stock art, which schools then customized by overprinting their specific game information in black. Think you are seeing double? Rest assured, ALL of the images featured in our calendars are faithful reproductions of the actual physical programs that were sold at each school on gameday during this unforgettable era.Collector's Series This calendar is part of a collector's series featuring archival-quality reproductions of home and away game souvenir programs. Each year brings 12 different cover reproductions from actual programs that were sold at the stadiums during the early 1900s to the 1960s. We will be introducing other products featuring some of the most popular images; however, this unique format of 11"x14" frame-ready prints will almost always feature different, authentic cover images each year. Officially Licensed This is an officially licensed product. Part of the proceeds of each sale goes back to the school.
