From the back cover: House & Garden magazine launched in 1901 and became a part of the Condé Nast Publications in 1915. House & Garden expertly chronicled America’s evolving relationship with matters of interior design, architecture, and gardening. The magazine focused on living well through the cultivation of one’s home. The early covers used rich painterly details and strong color combinations to vividly illustrate this philosophy.

In some cases the images have been digitally repaired and restored where creases, tears, marks, or other damage would have otherwise distracted from the appreciation of the artwork as it appeared at that time.
