From the back cover: Celebrate the colorful history of the grandest traditions in college sports, through these twelve vintage program covers from the early days of Big Bowl Football. Recapture the nostalgia of bygone gridiron heroes and contests from the Rose, Sugar, Cotton and Orange Bowls. Each month features authentic reproductions of actual game day program covers from the 1920s to 1960s, with accompanying game summaries by Dr. Bernie Kish, former Executive Director of the College Football Hall of Fame. Printed on heavy, 100% recycled paper with soy-based inks, this unique, eco-friendly edition includes images that are perforated to fit an 11"x14" frame. It's a wire-bound collection of archival-quality prints, disguised as a calendar.
About the Images The images featured in this calendar are archival-quality reproductions of the covers of the actual souvenir game programs that were sold at the games many decades ago. In some cases the images have been digitally repaired and restored where creases, tears, marks, or other damage would have otherwise distracted from the appreciation of the artwork as it appeared at that time. Some images have been cropped and/or resized to fit this format. The Golden Age: 1920s - 1960s The period from the 1920s-1960s is considered by many collectors to be the Golden Age of college football program cover art. Talented men and women created sublime, provocative and often whimsical works of art for any given Saturday—using oil on canvas, watercolor, pastels, and pen and ink.
Editor's note: Some of the most memorable images were created by staff artists and syndicated by advertising companies as stock art, which schools then customized by overprinting their specific game information in black. Think you are seeing double? Rest assured, ALL of the images featured in our calendars are faithful reproductions of the actual physical programs that were sold at each school on gameday during this unforgettable era.Collector's Series This calendar is part of a collector's series featuring archival-quality reproductions of home and away game souvenir programs. Each year brings 12 different cover reproductions from actual programs that were sold at the stadiums during the early 1900s to the 1960s. We will be introducing other products featuring some of the most popular images; however, this unique format of 11"x14" frame-ready prints will almost always feature different, authentic cover images each year. Officially Licensed This is an officially licensed product. Part of the proceeds of each sale goes back to the school.
